International Primate Protection League (IPPL) Gibbon and Otter Habitat

[On the Boards]

Year(s): 2025-Present

Location: Summerville, South Carolina [Unbuilt]

Working with zoological consultant Ursa International on behalf of the International Primate Protection League, Centripetal Works is providing architectural design services for a new mixed species Gibbon and Asian Small-Clawed Otter habitat. The project includes the retrofit of an existing, unfinished 1,132 square foot Care Quarters building linked by at-grade and overhead transfer chutes to a new 3,000 square foot mesh-enclosed habitat. Inside the habitat, Centripetal Works and Ursa collaborated with Harrell Structural Engineers in the development of steel climbing structures for the gibbons, which are interlinked by steel cables to encourage the primates to brachiate. The habitat also includes landscaping as well as a new pool and filtration system designed for the care of the otters. KCL Engineering is providing Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing Engineering for the Care Quarters Building.
